Michael Martelle was identified as the driver who struck Warwick Police Chief David Shoemaker twice just before 3:30 p.m., Warwick police said. He also tried to crash into a police cruiser before speeding off. The police chief was not seriously injured. Police attempted to chase Martelle but called it off out of concern for the public’s safety. Martelle sped away from officers again but lost control of his car soon after. His passenger, Estrella Crespo, was arrested soon after and charged with disobeying an officer, authorities said. Hinsdale police are urging anyone with information on Martelle’s whereabouts to contact Detective David Upton at 603-336-5723.

Michael Martelle has been identified as the driver involved in a harrowing incident that took place just before 3:30 p.m. Warwick Police Chief David Shoemaker was struck twice by Martelle, who also attempted to crash into a police cruiser before fleeing the scene, as reported by Warwick police.
Fortunately, the police chief sustained only minor injuries from the incident. Following the altercation, police officers pursued Martelle, but the chase was called off due to concerns for public safety. However, officers in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, were able to locate the vehicle shortly after.
Despite attempts to evade authorities, Martelle lost control of his car on Brattleboro Road, leading to a crash. Both he and a female passenger fled the scene, as confirmed by Hinsdale police. The passenger, Estrella Crespo, was swiftly apprehended and charged with disobeying an officer.

Despite efforts by law enforcement, Martelle managed to elude capture with the help of a K9 officer and a drone. Authorities have issued a warning that Martelle may be armed and should be considered dangerous to the community. Investigators have described him as having a medium build and was last seen wearing black shorts without a shirt.
