In a tragic accident that shook the city of Pune, two young IT professionals lost their lives in a crash involving a Porsche Taycan. The incident occurred in the Kalyani Nagar area, where the 17-year-old driver of the high-end vehicle, who had reportedly been partying late into the night at pubs, was released on bail within 15 hours of the fatal collision, sparking outrage among the community.

The Pune Police have identified the car as a Porsche Taycan and have stated that the driver should be treated as an adult in this case. The Juvenile Justice Board is currently handling the matter, while video footage of the accident has captured the speeding car moments before the crash.

According to Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, the Porsche Taycan was imported in March by a dealer in Bengaluru and was later brought to Maharashtra on temporary registration. During the temporary registration period, the vehicles can only be used to drive to and from the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

In terms of safety features, the Taycan offers 10 airbags, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and more.

Porsche cars are renowned for luxury and come with a price tag ranging from Rs 96 lakh to over Rs 1.86 crore (all prices, ex-showroom). In India, the all-electric Taycan starts at Rs 1.50 crore (ex-showroom). Porsche recently launched the Taycan facelift, the first major upgrade to the electric sports car since its debut in 2019. The upgraded model is expected to arrive in India later this year, following its debut in European dealerships in the spring of 2024.
