A tragic accident in Terrell County, Georgia has left the community mourning the loss of a recently graduated high school student. The incident occurred on Bobby Locke Road in the early hours of the morning, where a white Ford F-150 was involved in a single-vehicle crash.

The Tragic Accident

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the vehicle was travelling south on Bobby Locke Road when it veered off the highway while negotiating a curve. The truck travelled onto the east shoulder for approximately 260 feet before hitting a culvert and becoming airborne. The vehicle then struck a guy wire before continuing south, still airborne, and colliding with a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as David Mullins, tragically lost his life in the crash. His passenger, Vansh Patel, was ejected from the truck during the collision. Mullins was pronounced dead at the scene, while Patel was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Community Grieves

David Mullins had recently graduated from Deerfield-Windsor High School, where he was a senior. The school’s head football coach, Brian McCrae, took to Facebook to express his condolences and share memories of Mullins.

McCrae described Mullins as an incredible young man and expressed his sympathy towards the Mullins family and all those affected by the loss. He also offered prayers for Vansh Patel and his family, urging everyone to honour Mullins’ memory by living as he would have wanted.

School and Community Support

The Deerfield-Windsor community is rallying together to support the families of both Mullins and Patel during this difficult time. Coroner Michael Fowler revealed that Mullins had received a scholarship from the Albany Rotary Club and had plans to attend the University of Georgia.

The school’s Head of School, Allen Lowe, stated that they are focusing on providing support to the affected families and students. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with funeral expenses, with an outpouring of support from the community resulting in over $28,000 raised so far.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash on Bobby Locke Road. WALB has reached out to the Georgia State Patrol for further information on the incident, and updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
