The Birmingham Police Department is seeking to identify a person of interest in a May 2024 shooting incident that resulted in one fatality and six injuries. The shooting took place at a Shell gas station on 3rd Avenue West, with multiple shot spotter alerts prompting police response. The Violent Incident in Birmingham

In a recent incident that shook the city of Birmingham, one man lost his life and six others were injured in a shooting that took place in the early hours of Sunday, May 5. The Birmingham Police Department is actively seeking to identify a person of interest in connection with the case.

The Scene of the Crime

The shooting occurred at the Shell gas station located in the 800 block of 3rd Avenue West. Officers from the Birmingham Police Department were alerted to the situation after multiple shot spotter alerts were received just after 2 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a white sedan that had crashed into a utility pole in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue. Tragically, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as David Isiah Westbrook, was found dead. The Jefferson County Coroner confirmed that Westbrook had sustained gunshot wounds.

The Victims and the Aftermath

As officers surveyed the scene, they received reports that two men with gunshot wounds had been transported to Princeton Hospital by private vehicle. Subsequently, two more men with gunshot injuries arrived at UAB Hospital in a similar manner. Later in the morning, a seventh man with gunshot wounds was taken to Princeton Hospital.

In total, seven individuals fell victim to the senseless violence that unfolded at the gas station. The sheer magnitude of the incident was evident as police estimated that over 150 rounds were fired during the altercation.

Seeking Justice

Despite the best efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Detectives from the Birmingham Police Department are now appealing to the public for any information that may help identify the person of interest linked to the shooting.
