Pune Porsche Accident Case Update: Juvenile Accused Sent to Observation Home
In a recent development in the Pune Porsche accident case, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) made a crucial decision on the review petition filed by the Pune Police. The Board had previously granted bail to the minor accused, 17-year-old Vedant Agarwal, with certain conditions, such as writing an essay. However, in the latest ruling, the Board has sent Agarwal to an observation home until June 5.
Agarwal’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, clarified that the bail had not been cancelled, but rather modified. He explained that the police had filed a review application against the bail order, citing security concerns. After detailed arguments, the JJ Board decided to remand the minor accused to Rehabilitation/Observation Home until the specified date.
Regarding the application to treat Agarwal as an adult, Patil mentioned that no arguments took place during the hearing. Under the Juvenile Justice Act, it typically takes a few months to decide on such matters. While the application was submitted on the day of the hearing, the deliberations did not occur. Patil anticipates receiving the detailed order in due course.
Pune Police Add Charges Against Agarwal
Prior to the JJB hearing, the Pune police added several charges against Agarwal, including sections 185, 184, 119, and 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act. These charges relate to driving under the influence, reckless driving, age limits for driving, and general traffic offenses. The police also sought to try Agarwal as an adult, given the seriousness of the incident.
The fatal crash occurred in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, where Agarwal allegedly drove a Porsche while intoxicated, resulting in the tragic deaths of two motorbike riders. The victims, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, were both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune.
Father of Accused Faces Police Custody
In a separate development, Vishal Agarwal, the father of the minor accused, was remanded to police custody for two days by a sessions court. The police suspected Agarwal of withholding information and sought further interrogation. During the initial investigation, Agarwal provided misleading information about his whereabouts, leading to his arrest.
According to the police, Agarwal has been charged under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. These charges pertain to neglecting a child’s safety and supplying intoxicating substances to a minor. The police confiscated Agarwal’s possessions, including a basic Nokia phone and a Kia car.
