A tragic incident occurred in Madavoor as 18-year-old Mohammed Rijas died from electrocution while seeking shelter from heavy rain. The young man was parking his bike under a roadside shed when he came into contact with an electrified iron pillar. The KSEB workers had inspected the area the day before due to complaints of electric shocks. Mohammed Rafi, Rijas’ brother, witnessed the accident and also suffered electrocution but survived. Rijas, an employee at a Kinassery hotel, was unable to be saved despite being rushed to the medical college. Minister for Electricity K Krishnankutty has ordered a thorough investigation into the tragic incident. Rijas leaves behind his parents and three siblings.

Tragic Death of Youngster in Madavoor
Early Monday morning in Madavoor, tragedy struck when 18-year-old Mohammed Rijas lost his life due to electrocution. The incident occurred as Rijas sought shelter from heavy rains under a roadside shed. Unfortunately, as he parked his bike along the verandah of the structure, he came into contact with the iron pillar, resulting in a fatal outcome.
Unsafe Conditions Leading to the Tragedy
Recent torrential rains had caused a branch of a tree to bend over towards an electricity cable, passing current to the shed. This dangerous situation had previously caused electric shocks to several individuals seeking refuge under the shed. In response to these reports, KSEB workers from the Kovoor section conducted an inspection of the area the day before the unfortunate incident.
Details of the Accident
The accident took place near the AWH junction as Rijas was returning home from work at a hotel in Kinassery. His brother, Mohammed Rafi, was a witness to the tragic event and also suffered electric shock but fortunately survived. Despite being rushed to the medical college, Rijas could not be saved, leaving behind grieving parents and three siblings.
Government Response
Following the devastating loss of Mohammed Rijas, Minister for Electricity K Krishnankutty has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. It is hoped that this investigation will shed light on the lapses in safety measures that led to this tragic outcome.
