Hamilton County Coroner Jeff Jellison announced on 21st May that another victim believed to have been killed by alleged serial killer Herb Baumestier at Fox Hollow Farm in Westfield 30 years ago has been identified. The human remains recovered from Fox Hollow Farm in 1996 have been identified as belonging to Jeffrey A. Jones of Fillmore, who was reported missing in August 1993. Through an extensive forensic genetic genealogy investigation by the FBI and the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, Jones is now the second new victim and the third positive identification from the renewed investigation into more than 10,000 remains at Fox Hollow Farm. The four unidentified DNA profiles will also undergo genetic genealogy investigation by the FBI. Jellison’s office has renewed efforts to identify remains found at the farm in 2022. Baumeister, a Westfield resident, died by suicide in 1996 after an investigation revealed over 10,000 charred and crushed human remains. The investigation gained momentum when the family of Allen Livingston of Indianapolis, missing since 1993, contacted the coroner to inquire if Livingston was one of Baumeister’s victims. In addition to Jones, Livingston was identified as one of the victims in October 2023. Jellison stated that the total number of victims remains unknown. All of Baumeister’s known victims disappeared in the early to mid-90s after being last seen at gay bars in the Indianapolis area. Jellison urged anyone with missing family members who they suspect may have been victims of Baumeister to come forward for a DNA swab.

Continued Investigation and Collaboration

The four unidentified DNA profiles will be forwarded to the FBI for further genetic genealogy investigation. Jellison expressed the challenges of the investigation due to the condition of the remains, many of which were found burnt and crushed. However, the dedicated team of law enforcement and forensic specialists remains committed to the case.

Baumeister

The farm, located in Westfield, was the residence of Herb Baumeister, who tragically took his own life in 1996. Following an investigation and excavation of the wooded area behind his estate, the shocking discovery of over 10,000 charred and crushed human remains was made.
