Joshua Dickens, a 19-year-old, was arrested by APD detectives for the fatal shooting of Eric Purley in Albuquerque. Albuquerque Murder Suspect Arrested After Fatal Shooting
ALBUQUERQUE – APD detectives have apprehended Joshua Dickens, a 19-year-old suspect, in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in front of a bus stop on Central Ave. The incident occurred near the bus stop at 6818 Central Ave. S.E.
Surveillance footage captured the tragic event, showing Dickens, dressed in a blue shirt, walking along the sidewalk at 10:44 a.m. He passed by the bus stop, turned back, and engaged in a confrontation with another man, later identified as Eric Purley. Purley, who approached Dickens, was seen walking back towards the bus stop, clutching his chest before collapsing on the sidewalk.
The victim, Purley, was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to a friend of Purley, the day began with a plan to visit the flea market at Expo New Mexico. However, Purley, intoxicated and disinterested in the flea market, crossed Central Ave. and narrowly avoided being hit by a vehicle. The friend recounted hearing an argument between Purley and a man, followed by a gunshot and the man fleeing westbound on Central.

Prior to the shooting, Dickens was captured on surveillance footage inside a smoke shop at 9:17 a.m., wearing the same attire observed during the tragic incident.
An informant later disclosed to detectives that Dickens had been boasting about shooting a homeless individual in the vicinity of Louisiana and Central. The informant described Dickens as laughing and expressing control over someone’s life.
Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued for Dickens, who now faces charges of murder and tampering with evidence.
