The tragic drowning incident at Pollock Beach in Summerstrand claimed the lives of Blessings Charumbira (26) and Nomphumelelo Malindisa (21). The two friends were part of a group of five at the beach that day. According to Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, the friends went for a swim around 3 pm, but three of them disappeared from sight. Charumbira’s body was found at around 7:20 pm, followed by Malindisa’s. The search for the third victim is ongoing. No foul play is suspected. The tragic incident that took place on Sunday, May 19, at Pollock Beach in Summerstrand has left the community in shock. The two individuals who lost their lives have been identified as Blessings Charumbira (26) and Nomphumelelo Malindisa (21). They were part of a group of five friends who had gathered at the popular beach that afternoon.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, the group of friends arrived at Pollock Beach in Summerstrand around 15:00. It is alleged that three of them decided to take a swim in the ocean.

Shortly after 15:30, when their friends on the beach noticed that they were missing, a call for help was made. The search and rescue operation began, but unfortunately, only two bodies were recovered.

Janse Van Rensburg explained that at approximately 19:20, Charumbira’s body was washed ashore, followed by Malindisa’s body shortly after. The search for the third victim is still ongoing.

“At this stage, no foul play is suspected, and the investigation into the incident is continuing,” she stated.
