ATCHISON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating three suspects on multiple allegations after a traffic stop.

Just after 11a.m. on Thursday, an officer on patrol stopped a Ford Explorer SUV in the 500 block Green Street in Atchison for a traffic violation, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.
The officer subsequently found that the driver, identified as 49-year-old Robert “Jamie” Ford of Atchison, was driving while suspended. His two passengers, 36-year-old Shellene Keil and 36-year-old Melissa Butler, both of Atchison, had outstanding warrants for their arrests.
All three occupants were found to be in possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia and were taken to the County Jail. Shellene D. Keil and Melissa I. Butler are facing charges of possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to appear in court. Robert James Ford is jailed for driving while suspended and possession of fentanyl.
In Atchison County, a recent traffic stop has led to the arrest of three individuals on multiple charges. The incident took place in the 500 block of Green Street in Atchison, where an officer on patrol pulled over a Ford Explorer SUV for a traffic violation.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 49-year-old Robert “Jamie” Ford of Atchison, was found to be driving with a suspended license. His two passengers, 36-year-old Shellene Keil and 36-year-old Melissa Butler, both residents of Atchison, were discovered to have outstanding warrants for their arrests.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that all three occupants of the vehicle were in possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. As a result, they were all taken into custody and transported to the County Jail for processing.
Shellene D. Keil is currently being held on charges of possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, a Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear in court, and a District Court warrant for a theft that took place at Stop and Go on 4th and U.S. 59 in September 2023.
Melissa I. Butler is also in custody facing charges of possession of fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear.
Robert James Ford, the driver of the vehicle, remains in jail for driving with a suspended license, possession of fentanyl, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
