Crime news: A woman has been arrested in Assam’s Jorhat for allegedly hacking her husband to death and setting the body on fire, as per the police statement on Saturday (May 18). Along with her, her minor son was also taken into custody. The woman confessed to the crime, citing domestic violence as the reason for her actions.

Superintendent of Police of Jorhat district, Shwetank Mishra, stated, “The woman’s son, being a minor, will be dealt with under the Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.” The woman’s confession revealed that her husband’s habitual physical abuse led her to take drastic measures to protect herself and her son.

The victim, identified as Prahalad Soren, worked in a tea garden in the region. The gruesome incident occurred in the Murmuria tea estate located in Jorhat’s Mariani area late Thursday night. Local residents noticed the woman burning something near her residence, prompting them to inform the authorities.
