Nagpur: A shocking incident took place in Mazri, Yashodhara Nagar, where a 21-year-old history-sheeter, Yash Gonekar, was brutally stabbed to death by his two friends-turned-foes in the early hours of Friday. The accused, identified as Sheikh Arbaz Sheikh Iqbal and Aslam alias Guddu Ansari, both residents of Mhada Colony, are currently on the run as three police teams have been formed to apprehend them.

Yash Gonekar, a cab driver residing at Mhada Quarters, Kapil Nagar, had a criminal record with around 10 offenses registered against him, including attempt to murder, criminal assault, and theft. His friends-turned-foes, Guddu and Arbaz, also had a history of criminal activities with offenses like criminal assault and theft on their records.

According to senior police inspector Dyaneshwar Bhedorkar, the tragic incident stemmed from a fight that took place between Gonekar and Arbaz’s younger brother about 15 days ago. Seeking revenge, Arbaz and Guddu hatched a plan to teach Gonekar a lesson which ultimately led to his untimely demise.

On the fateful night, the accused duo ambushed Gonekar near a celebration hall in Mazri and viciously attacked him, leaving him in a pool of blood before fleeing the scene. A passerby discovered Gonekar and alerted the authorities, prompting a swift response from the Yashodhara Nagar police. Despite being rushed to Mayo Hospital for treatment, Gonekar succumbed to his injuries at GMCH.
