Man Arrested for Attempted Sexual Assault of 12-Year-Old Girl in Sacramento

A man with a history of sex offenses was arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for attempting to have sex with a 12-year-old girl. The disturbing incident took place around 2:30 p.m. on May 9 at a bus stop in Sacramento.

Details of the Incident

The 12-year-old girl was waiting at the bus stop when the man approached her and engaged her in conversation. He asked her age and where she was going, making the young girl feel scared. When she mentioned she was 14, the man proceeded to ask her if she wanted to have sex with him.

Thankfully, the bus arrived at that moment, and both the girl and the man boarded it. The quick-thinking girl took a photo of the man and sent it to her parents, alerting them that she was being followed. The man’s behavior became even more alarming when he got off the bus, stared at the girl through the window, then reboarded the bus.

Upon reaching her final destination in East Sacramento, the girl got off the bus, and the man followed her. She immediately called 9-1-1, prompting Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies to respond to the scene. Despite their efforts, the man managed to walk away before they could locate him. The deputies then ensured the girl was safely transported home.

Identification and Arrest of the Suspect

Using facial recognition software, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was able to identify the suspect as 36-year-old Kahlilullah Razaq. Razaq had a troubling criminal history, having been convicted in 2013 of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, for which he served six years in state prison.

While on parole in 2016, Razaq was arrested and convicted of indecent exposure. Despite being released on parole in early 2024, he found himself in trouble again on March 22 of the same year when he attempted to solicit sex from an undercover sheriff’s deputy in exchange for money. He was released five days later pending trial.

Arrest on Parole Violation

On May 10, deputies arrested Razaq on a parole violation and booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail for allegedly contacting a minor with the intent of committing a sex act. The swift action taken by law enforcement potentially prevented a tragic and harmful situation from unfolding.

Incidents like these serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift response in protecting vulnerable members of our community. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, particularly children who are at risk of exploitation.

As the case against Razaq progresses, authorities urge anyone with information related to this incident or any other suspicious activity to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Together, we can work towards creating a safer environment for everyone in Sacramento and beyond.
