In a tragic incident on Friday, four individuals lost their lives and six others sustained injuries in a fatal car accident on NH-143 near Darjing under the Chandiposh police station in Sundargarh district. The passengers were en route from Bhograi in Balasore district to Rourkela to attend a relative’s funeral when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The deceased couple, Tapan Dasmahaptra (56) and Sarojini (52), tragically succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the Rourkela Government Hospital. The other two victims were identified as Gagan Kamali (70) and Amita Mohanty (50). The six injured individuals were immediately transferred to a private hospital in critical condition for further medical attention.

According to sources close to the investigation, the driver of the vehicle reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the collision with the divider and subsequent overturning of the car. Inspector Manas Mahakud of the Chandiposh police station confirmed the seizure of the vehicle and ongoing investigations into the cause of the accident.
