A UPS driver was tragically shot and killed in Irvine by a coworker, who has been arrested by the Irvine Police Department. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Rhean Fontanoza from Aliso Viejo, was taken into custody for the murder of the UPS driver, Expedito Cuesta De Leon. The Tragic Incident in Irvine Involving a UPS Driver
The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has made an arrest in the case of the fatal shooting of a UPS driver. 46-year-old Rhean Fontanoza, from Aliso Viejo, has been taken into custody for the murder of the driver.
On the day of the incident, multiple reports of gunshots in the area of Fleming and Chrysler in Irvine prompted IPD to respond. Upon arrival, officers found a UPS driver, identified as Expedito Cuesta De Leon, 50, from Aliso Viejo, with multiple gunshot wounds in his delivery truck. Despite efforts to save him, the driver succumbed to his injuries.
Surveillance footage revealed the suspect’s vehicle, a silver Honda Ridgeline, pulling up next to the UPS truck before fleeing the scene towards Jeronimo. The driver, described as a white male in dark clothing and a face mask, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Following a countywide broadcast, the suspect’s vehicle was located by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on Santiago Canyon Road. IPD officers, with the assistance of the SWAT team, apprehended Fontanoza for the alleged homicide.
While the motive remains unclear, it has been determined that Fontanoza and De Leon were colleagues at UPS. In response to the incident, UPS issued a statement expressing shock and sadness, emphasizing that such events do not reflect the company’s values.
