In a heart-wrenching development in the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse tragedy in Mumbai, it has come to light that two of the 16 individuals who lost their lives in the incident were relatives of Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan. According to a report by India TV’s Atul Singh, Kartik Aaryan’s maternal uncle and aunt were among the victims of the unfortunate accident. The actor, deeply saddened by the loss, attended their last rites on May 16. The bodies of the deceased couple, identified as Indore Airport director Manoj Chansoria and his wife Anita Chansoria, were recovered from a car three days after the hoarding collapse. The couple resided in Jabalpur, near Mariam Chowk in the Civil Lines area.
The bodies of Kartik Aaryan’s relatives were extricated approximately 56 hours after the calamity. On Thursday afternoon, the actor and his family arrived at Sahar Cremation Ground to bid a final farewell to his maternal uncle and aunt. The couple, who were en route back to Jabalpur from Mumbai via Indore on May 13, made a stop at a petrol pump in Pant Nagar on the Eastern Express Highway to refuel their car around 4:30 pm. The car bore the license plate number HR 26 EL 9373.
Manoj Chansoria – A Brief Profile
Manoj Chansoria had recently retired as a general manager at Mumbai ATC in March and had relocated to Jabalpur. Relatives of the couple revealed that they had traveled to Mumbai for personal reasons a few days prior and were on their way back to Jabalpur in their red TATA car when all contact was lost. Tracing the location of Chansoria’s mobile phone led authorities to the petrol pump, suggesting that the couple was present at the site when the tragic hoarding collapse occurred.
The Tragic Incident
According to municipal officials, the massive hoarding in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, collapsed due to the weak foundation of its pillar. The illegal advertisement structure, situated on a piece of land under the control of the Government Railway Police (GRP), toppled onto a petrol pump in the Chheda Nagar area on Monday evening amidst dust storms and unexpected rainfall in the city.
