The Arrest of Lu Reh in Connection with Two Fatal Shootings

A 22-year-old man, Lu Reh, has been charged with first-degree murder in the 2022 shooting of East Colfax community leader Ma Kaing. But the plot thickened when Aurora police arrested him on Tuesday for a separate fatal shooting that occurred six weeks earlier.

The Tragic Incident

The victim, 44-year-old Aurora resident Ricardo Ryans, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in an alley between the 1600 blocks of Willow and Xanthia streets in Denver’s East Colfax neighborhood at 4:15 p.m. on May 30, 2022.

Two hours later, a Volkswagen Tiguan parked near East 14th Avenue and Niagara Street caught the attention of a passerby who noticed bullet holes and blood on the passenger seat. Witnesses later revealed that the woman driving the vehicle had gone into a nearby motel after the shooting.

Police Investigation

Authorities found bullet casings at the scene and embarked on a nearly two-year-long investigation to identify a suspect. Through witness statements and ballistic and forensic evidence, Lu Reh was pinpointed as the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of Ricardo Ryans.
