Torrey Moore, a 33-year-old man from Silver Spring, Maryland, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 61-year-old convenience store clerk Ayalew Wondimu. The jury also convicted Moore of using a gun during the commission of a violent crime and illegal possession of a gun. Moore now faces a life sentence for the shooting that took place at a Dash In Convenience Store on New Hampshire Avenue.
The incident occurred on February 8, 2022, when Moore entered the store to purchase a bottle of iced tea, despite being previously banned. An argument ensued between Moore and Wondimu, leading Moore to throw energy drink shots at the clerk. Wondimu attempted to defend himself by grabbing a metal pole, but Moore responded by pulling out a gun and shooting him multiple times. The entire altercation was captured by the store’s surveillance camera.

Following the shooting, police identified Moore as the suspect and went to his apartment on Oak Leaf Drive in Silver Spring to arrest him. Inside the apartment, officers made a gruesome discovery – the badly decomposed body of Moore’s pregnant girlfriend, 26-year-old Denise Middleton. An autopsy revealed that Middleton had also been shot multiple times.
Moore now faces additional charges in connection to Middleton’s death and that of her unborn fetus. He is scheduled to stand trial for these charges on November 18. Before his sentencing for the murder of Wondimu on December 12, Moore will have to face trial for the separate murder case.
