Law enforcement officials from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office went to the property to serve warrants for failure to appear on 36-year-old Bethany Morgan Peacock Lomax. Upon arrival at the rural residence, deputies encountered Lomax and another individual, identified as 35-year-old Jonathan Scott Whitley, in a rear bedroom, as per reports from Captain Mark McDaniel, the public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies noticed a loaded revolver on the bed and, upon attempting to close the door, Whitley was taken into custody. A search of the bedroom revealed the presence of both Lomax and Whitley, along with a bong and multiple rifles mounted on a wall rack, added McDaniel.
Further investigation revealed that Whitley, a convicted felon, was in possession of firearms, leading to his arrest on charges of felony possession of a firearm by a felon. Subsequently, deputies obtained search warrants for the residence and Whitley’s vehicle parked in the driveway.
During the search of the property, officers secured the firearms and discovered a range of controlled substances, including marijuana laced with fentanyl, methamphetamine, unadulterated marijuana, cocaine, digital scales, and glass pipes. All substances were tested and confirmed by authorities. The search of Whitley’s vehicle yielded more methamphetamine, scales, and pipes, further implicating him in drug-related activities.
Whitley faced charges of felony trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in drugs, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center without bond by Magistrate Mark Wilhelm.
Lomax, who was initially wanted for multiple counts of failure to appear, was additionally charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute, trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in heroin or opium, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Magistrate Sean Reid ordered her detention without bond at the Rowan County Detention Center.
