On Dec. 27, 1989, Gale entered a women’s clothing store on Route 9 in Framingham where two women, 18 and 29, were working. As the women prepared to open the store, Gale approached one of them, claiming he wanted to buy clothes. However, he then revealed a gun, forcing the women into the back of the store, as described by Ryan.

The Alleged Robbery and Assault
Gale allegedly made the older woman, who was the store manager, empty the safe, cash register, and her purse. He then instructed the younger woman to post a note on the store front indicating a delayed opening. Following this, he forced both women into back rooms, where he sexually assaulted them in the store office, according to Ryan.
The Escape and Investigation
The women managed to flee through a fire door, running through backyards to seek help at a nearby home. Despite Gale’s warnings not to look at him during the ordeal, the women provided crucial information to investigators about his appearance, aiding in the case.
