CRAWFORD COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — A tragic incident unfolded in the serene countryside of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, where a 13-year-old boy lost his life in a devastating side-by-side crash on a quiet country road.
The Unfortunate Incident
On a fateful Saturday morning, the peace of Shartle Road near the intersection with Leslie Road in West Mead Township, Crawford County, was shattered by a UTV crash that claimed the life of a young boy. The Pennsylvania State Police Meadville received a distress call about the incident at around 10:18 a.m.
The Victim

The victim, initially reported as a 14-year-old male from Meadville, was later identified as a 13-year-old boy, according to a report by the Meadville Tribune. The young boy suffered serious injuries in the crash and despite valiant efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at Meadville Medical Center.
The Investigation
An investigation into the tragic incident revealed that four juvenile males were travelling west on Shartle Road in a 2017 Polaris UTV. The operator lost control while negotiating a left-hand curve, causing the UTV to overturn and eject the young victim, who was a passenger in the vehicle. The UTV then came to a rest in a ditch on the north side of the roadway.
The Aftermath
While the victim lost his life in the crash, another 14-year-old male passenger from Meadville sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Fortunately, the operator and a third passenger, both 14-year-old males from Meadville, escaped unscathed. The UTV sustained only minor damage in the incident.
Assistance and Investigation
The Pennsylvania State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the West Mead Township Volunteer Fire Department and Meadville Area Ambulance. The investigation into the crash is ongoing to determine the factors that led to this tragic loss of life.
