A man in north Georgia has been arrested after reportedly breaking into a home in Cobb County on two separate occasions to steal guns. The incident took place on Sunshine Trace, where the homeowner reported a break-in while he was out of town.
First Break-In
The initial break-in occurred on March 17, with the resident returning home to find that 12 guns, including handguns and rifles, had been stolen. The homeowner alerted authorities, who began their investigation into the theft.
Second Break-In
Just a few weeks later, on April 8, the same man, identified as James Daniel Leech, was spotted returning to the same home in an attempt to steal more weapons. This time, he managed to make off with an additional 10 guns.
Improved Security Measures
During the time between the two break-ins, the homeowner took proactive steps to enhance security at the property. Security cameras were installed, allowing for a clearer identification of the suspect, James Daniel Leech.
Arrest and Recovery
On April 21, the Hiawassee police received a tip about Leech, who was believed to be living in the area and was suspected of committing a burglary in Greenwood County, South Carolina. Following this lead, officers searched Leech’s residence and recovered some of the stolen guns from the initial break-in on Sunshine Trace.
Additional Discoveries
In addition to the stolen firearms, law enforcement also found multiple illegal animal parts at Leech’s home. Further investigation uncovered pawn tickets from various shops in Georgia, as well as different gun components.
Legal Consequences
James Daniel Leech was taken into custody and booked into Cobb County jail. He has been charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of illegal birds, and unlawful possession of firearms or weapons. Authorities have hinted that he may face additional charges as the investigation progresses.
Leech’s wife, Caitline Robertson, was also arrested during the search. However, she has since been released on bond.
