Carjacking Incident Involving Rideshare Driver Leads to Arrests in Indianapolis

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a disturbing incident unfolded on the near north side of Indianapolis, resulting in the arrest of two individuals. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a call regarding an armed carjacking involving a rideshare driver in the 3200 block of N. California Street.

Details of the Incident

Upon arrival, officers were informed by the rideshare driver that he had been summoned to the location to pick up a customer. However, upon arrival, the customer, accompanied by three others, brandished handguns and forcibly removed the driver from the vehicle, subsequently fleeing the scene in the stolen car.

The vehicle and suspect descriptions were promptly disseminated, leading to the location of the stolen vehicle on the north side of Indianapolis via automatic license plate readers. IMPD officers initiated a traffic stop, which culminated in a brief pursuit ending in the 4000 block of N. Keystone Avenue.

Arrest and Charges

One individual remained in the vehicle and was apprehended, while at least two others absconded on foot. A K9 unit successfully tracked down one of the fleeing suspects, a 16-year-old, who was found in possession of a handgun. The juvenile suspect has since been charged with armed robbery, dangerous possession of a firearm, and resisting law enforcement.
