A bizarre incident unfolded at a local bar in California when a grandfather was arrested for allegedly paying a homeless woman $20 to watch his 7-year-old granddaughter while he indulged in drinks at the establishment. The shocking turn of events took place on Monday, May 6, 2024, at a bar located on the 5300 block of Auburn Boulevard in Sacramento County.

Police were alerted to the situation when a concerned passerby called 911 to report that a man, later identified as 54-year-old Jason Warren, was soliciting help from strangers, claiming that his granddaughter had been abducted for human trafficking. Responding to the call, Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Patrol Deputies arrived at the scene and found Warren to be highly intoxicated.

According to reports, Warren confessed to giving an unknown homeless woman $20 to take his granddaughter to a nearby thrift store while he spent time at the bar, approximately four hours prior. Surveillance footage captured the woman leaving the bar with the child, prompting authorities to launch a search operation with the assistance of resources such as STAR (Sheriff’s helicopter), Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS/drones), and Sheriff’s K9 units.

Fortunately, the woman heard the announcements from STAR and returned to the parking lot with the child, revealing that Warren had paid her to take care of the child as he was in no condition to do so. She explained that Warren was heavily intoxicated, and she felt compelled to provide the child with food at her makeshift residence.

Upon speaking with the child, deputies verified the details of the incident. It was discovered that the child’s aunt, who had full custody, had entrusted Warren with the care of her niece while she attended work. Following consultation with Child Protective Services, the child was deemed safe to return home with her aunt.

Subsequently, Warren was taken into custody on charges of felony child endangerment and other related offenses. He is currently held at Sacramento County Main Jail on a $75,000 bail awaiting a court appearance scheduled for May 8, 2024.
