Griffin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in November 2022 after an incident involving the unsafe handling of a weapon. The incident took place in March 2017, where police found Griffin, a 25-year-old, and the teen, Casey Lawrukiewicz, inside a home on South Yale in Wichita. SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man from Kansas has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a teenager. Fabian Griffin, a 49-year-old resident of Wichita, was found guilty of second-degree murder following an incident in 2017 that involved the unsafe handling of a weapon.
The incident took place in a residential area on the 1700 block of South Yale in Wichita. It was just after 11:30 p.m. when police were called to the scene and discovered three individuals inside the home. Alongside Griffin, there was a 25-year-old individual and a teenager identified as Casey Lawrukiewicz.
Lawrukiewicz was rushed to a nearby hospital by EMS but tragically passed away on March 4, 2017. The Judge overseeing the case also ordered Griffin to pay $5,000 in restitution to the Kansas Crime Victims Fund, which covered the expenses of Lawrukiewicz’s funeral.
