**Armed Robbery**

In a disturbing turn of events, a Roanoke Rapids man, Armel Triquan Deloatch, has been charged in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a convenience store just outside Roanoke Rapids. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on a Friday night, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to Captain Scott Hall of the sheriff’s office, Deloatch entered the store brandishing a firearm and demanded money from the cashier and a patron. **Crash with Infant in Vehicle**

In another troubling incident, Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant reported a crash involving a vehicle driven by James Wayne Johnston, with his infant child unsecured in the car. The crash, which occurred on Old Farm Road near Downsbrook Drive early on a Friday morning, left Johnston and the infant with injuries that required medical attention.

Officer B. Holcomb, who responded to the scene, found Johnston rolling around on the ground and the infant unsecured in the wrecked car. Both were transported to ECU North for treatment, with the child thankfully being reported as okay by Chief Guyant.

Further investigation by Holcomb and Lieutenant M. Hunsucker revealed that Johnston had veered off the roadway and collided head-on with a tree after driving erratically at a high rate of speed. A witness traveling behind Johnston confirmed his erratic driving behaviour prior to the collision, leading to suspicions of impairment.

Johnston was subsequently cited for several violations, including driving with an expired registration plate, driving with a revoked license, child restraint violation, and careless and reckless driving. Additional charges may be filed pending the results of a blood draw to determine if Johnston was impaired by substances other than alcohol.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance on the roads and in public spaces. The swift actions of law enforcement officers in apprehending the suspect in the armed robbery case and investigating the crash involving an infant demonstrate the dedication and commitment of Roanoke Valley law enforcement to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
