A 52-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her transgender live-in partner by strangulating the latter with a towel after a heated argument in Bengaluru, officials said on Friday. The body of Manju Naik, aged 42, was discovered at her residence in the Murugeshpalya neighbourhood of eastern Bengaluru on May 3. Manju used to reside with the accused woman, identified as Prema. The police discovered Manju’s decomposed body after neighbors complained of a foul stench coming from the house of the couple. Following an initial investigation, Prema was arrested by Bengaluru Police. A case has been registered in the matter under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a further probe is underway.

Manju had been living with the accused woman, identified as Prema.
Discovery of the Body
The gruesome discovery of Manju’s decomposed body was made after concerned neighbours reported a pungent odour emanating from the couple’s home. Upon conducting a thorough investigation, the Bengaluru Police apprehended Prema in connection with the heinous crime.

According to authorities, Naik had undergone a gender transition and had been in a relationship with Prema for two decades. The fatal altercation occurred on April 26 when Manju, under the influence of alcohol, instigated a physical confrontation with Prema. In a desperate bid to defend herself from Naik’s violent advances, Prema resorted to using a towel to subdue her partner.
Police Response
The discovery of Manju’s remains on May 3 prompted a swift response from law enforcement officials. DCP East of Bengaluru Police, Kuldeep Kumar, remarked, “The putrid smell emanating from the residence alerted us to the tragic incident.”
Legal Action
An investigation has been launched, and charges have been filed against Prema under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The authorities are currently conducting a thorough probe to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise of Manju Naik.
