Tragic Incident Unfolds in Decatur, Alabama

A tragic incident unfolded in Decatur, Alabama, when a 17-year-old boy arrived at Decatur-Morgan Hospital with a gunshot wound on Friday. The teen, who was later identified as the suspect in a deadly shooting that took place on March 27, ultimately succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Deadly Shooting on 10th Avenue

The Decatur Police Department (DPD) responded to a reported shooting on March 27 in the 900 block of 10th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 23-year-old Jared Bolden suffering from gunshot wounds. Bolden was rushed to Decatur-Morgan Hospital, where he tragically lost his life.

Investigations Uncover More Details

During the investigation into the shooting, the DPD identified the 17-year-old boy as the shooting suspect. However, the teenager was never located by detectives. The case took a new turn on April 30 when Bama Pawn in Decatur reported a burglary, leading to a joint investigation by DPD and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Arrests and Charges Follow

On May 3, DPD officers responded to Decatur Morgan Hospital after a male juvenile arrived with a gunshot wound. It was determined that the shooting occurred on 7th Street Southeast. Tragically, the 17-year-old suspect from the March shooting on 10th Avenue passed away from his injuries on May 5.

A 14-year-old was arrested as the suspect in the May 3 shooting on 7th Street and initially faced charges of first-degree assault and first-degree receiving stolen property. Following the death of the victim, the assault charge was upgraded to manslaughter.

Stolen Property and Firearms Recovered

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle the victim arrived in at the hospital had been reported stolen in February. Kaleb Kirk and three juveniles were found in possession of the stolen vehicle, which was also linked to the burglary at Bama Pawn. Stolen guns were recovered from a home in southwest Decatur, and all of the firearms were confirmed to be from Bama Pawn.

Legal Actions Taken

Kirk was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property and second-degree receiving stolen property, with a bond set at $7,500. Two other teens faced charges of receiving stolen property and were taken to the Tennessee Valley Juvenile Detention Facility. Additionally, Victoria Thomas was charged with second-degree receiving stolen property and held on a $2,500 bond.
