On May 3, Channing Almonta Cooks, 37, of Palm Coast, was arrested and charged with battery after an altercation at a Walmart on Cypress Point Parkway. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a battery at the store.
The employee informed deputies that Cooks spit in her face during a dispute over a return without a receipt. Cooks allegedly yelled racial slurs while spitting and claimed to have a cold.
Arrest and Explanation
Deputies located Cooks at a nearby CVS, where he explained that he had sneezed while discussing a product exchange with the employee. Despite covering his mouth, Cooks was detained by law enforcement.
During the arrest, Cooks expressed disbelief and frustration at the situation, questioning the reason for his detention. He later apologized for his outburst towards the arresting officer.
