Bert Clement of South Portland hit speeds exceeding 120 miles per hour on Route 101 in Exeter before being apprehended in North Hampton. He faces charges including aggravated driving under the influence of drugs, disobeying an officer, and reckless operation. The incident began when the vehicle fled from local police officers in Epping and continued onto Route 101. Tire deflation devices were deployed, but the car persisted until finally coming to a stop on I-95 North in North Hampton. Clement was released on bail and is set to be arraigned on June 4.

Man from South Portland, Maine Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase in New Hampshire

In a dramatic turn of events, a 28-year-old man from South Portland, Maine, was arrested by New Hampshire State Police on Tuesday night after leading troopers on a high-speed chase through multiple New Hampshire communities. The incident unfolded on Route 101 in Exeter before coming to a dramatic conclusion in North Hampton.

Speeds Exceeding 120 Miles Per Hour

Bert Clement, the man at the center of the chase, hit speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour on Route 101 in Exeter. According to police reports, Clement is now facing multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs, driving under the influence of drugs, disobeying an officer, and reckless operation.

Origin of the Chase

The chase began when a vehicle fled from local police officers in Epping, prompting state troopers to get involved. The car traveled at a high rate of speed along Route 101 in Epping before catching the attention of a state trooper near the highway’s Exit 10 in Exeter.

Deployment of Tire Deflation Devices

As the trooper attempted to stop the car, it continued to flee, briefly leaving the highway before returning and heading towards Hampton. Troopers then deployed tire deflation devices on Route 101 near the junction with I-95, causing two tires on the fleeing car to deflate. Despite this, the pursuit continued, eventually leading onto I-95 North in North Hampton.

After a high-stakes chase, troopers were able to take Clement into custody without incident. In addition to the charges related to the state police chase, Clement will also face charges in connection with the initial pursuit in Epping. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on June 4.
