Tragedy Strikes in Jatrabari as Bus Collision Claims Two Lives

In the early hours of Monday (May 6), a devastating accident occurred in the bustling area of Jatrabari, located in the heart of the capital city, Dhaka. The incident, which took place at around 2:00 am in front of the Institute of Child and Mother Health in Matuail, resulted in the tragic loss of two individuals.

The victims, identified as pickup driver Babul Chishti, aged 40, and Kabir Hossain, aged 50, were both residents of Jatrabari. Both Babul and Kabir hailed from the Shariatpur district, adding to the sorrow of their untimely demise.

Local residents sprang into action, rescuing the injured victims and rushing them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for urgent medical attention. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Babul was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while Kabir succumbed to his injuries later in the morning.

An eyewitness to the tragic event recounted that a passenger bus belonging to ‘Tuhin Paribahan’ collided with a pickup van as the latter was attempting a ‘U’ turn on the busy Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The impact of the collision caused the pickup to swerve violently, leading to the bus veering off the road and landing in a ditch at the roadside.

Good Samaritans from the local community worked tirelessly to extract the injured passengers and drivers from the wreckage. Among them, Babul and Kabir were in critical condition, requiring immediate medical attention.

Following the initial rescue efforts, the other passengers involved in the accident received necessary first aid at nearby healthcare facilities to address their injuries.

Inspector Bachchu Miah, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed that the bodies of the deceased were placed in the hospital morgue as per standard procedures.

The tragic events of that fateful morning serve as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of road safety for all commuters.
