Law enforcement authorities in Montgomery County are investigating a suspect involved in a standoff at a Kansas home. The Caney Police Department requested assistance from the Montgomery County Emergency Response Team (SERT) to address a barricaded individual, identified as 33-year-old Nathan Valdez from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Valdez had threatened officers with a blunt object and made death threats. Despite efforts to communicate with him, Valdez refused to comply with orders to exit the premises peacefully. After deploying less-lethal gas munitions, Valdez surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. He remains jailed on charges of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer. No serious injuries were reported during the operation.

Located in Montgomery County, Kansas, a recent incident involving law enforcement authorities and a suspect has left the community shaken. The events unfolded just before 7:30 a.m. on April 27, when the Caney, Kansas Police Department called for assistance from the Montgomery County Emergency Response Team (SERT) to address a barricaded individual inside a home.
The suspect in question has been identified as 33-year-old Nathan Valdez, hailing from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Valdez allegedly made threats towards Caney Police Officers with a blunt object and even went as far as issuing death threats against them. He sought refuge in his family’s residence on the 300 block of South Wood Street, leading to a tense standoff situation.
Upon the arrival of the Montgomery County SERT team, the scene was already surrounded by a combination of Caney Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers. Efforts were made to communicate with Valdez in an attempt to peacefully resolve the situation, but he remained unresponsive to commands to surrender.
The standoff continued for several hours, prompting the SERT team to request assistance from the Coffeyville Police Department SOT team. Despite the deployment of less-lethal gas munitions into the residence, Valdez remained defiant. However, after a prolonged standoff, he eventually exited the premises and was taken into custody without further incident.

Following his arrest, Valdez was evaluated by Caney EMS and subsequently transported to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections under the custody of the Caney Police Department. Fortunately, the operation concluded without any serious injuries to law enforcement personnel or other individuals involved.
As the investigation unfolds, Valdez remains behind bars, facing charges of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer. The community is left reeling from the events that transpired on that fateful day in Montgomery County.
