Officials Identify Body Found in Pearl River
Officials have confirmed the identity of the individual discovered in the Pearl River on Tuesday night. Jackson Police Department Public Information Officer, Tommie Brown, has revealed that the deceased is 42-year-old Jay Lee Barber. The body was located near South State Street and Gallatin Street, with a fisherman notifying JPD after spotting it floating near the stack at the Interstate 20 and Highway 49 exit.
Barber had been reported missing from Jackson on Friday, April 5, and his next of kin have been informed of his passing.
This unfortunate incident marks the second time in just three weeks that a missing person has been found in the same body of water by fishermen. Previously, missing Jackson resident Dau Mabil was discovered nearly 60 miles away from the capital city in Lawrence County on April 13. Mabil’s body, too, was found along the Pearl River, and law enforcement is still working to determine the cause of his death in light of his sudden disappearance.
