Tragic Accident at Savers Store in Las Cruces, New Mexico

One person tragically lost their life and over a dozen others were injured in a devastating incident that occurred at a Savers store in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Las Cruces Police Department responded to a call just before 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday, April 30, reporting a vehicle crashing into the popular thrift store located on north Main Street in Las Cruces.

Details of the Accident

According to authorities, a 2015 Ford Explorer crashed through the glass and aluminum façade near the self-checkout area of the Savers store. The vehicle then veered right as it passed through the store, eventually coming to a stop near the southeast corner of the showroom. The preliminary investigation revealed that the 69-year-old driver of the Ford Explorer mistakenly pressed on the accelerator instead of the brake while pulling into a parking space in front of the store, causing the tragic accident.

Victims and Injuries

The sole occupant of the vehicle, a 69-year-old female driver, was uninjured in the crash and voluntarily went to a local hospital for evaluation. However, the accident left a total of 15 individuals inside the store injured. Ten of the injured were transported to local hospitals, including 67-year-old Pamela Kaye Nelson, who sadly succumbed to her injuries and passed away. The remaining five injured individuals were assessed on-site by fire personnel and declined transportation to hospitals.

The ages of those injured ranged from 30 to 90 years old, with two workers and 13 customers affected by the incident. The severity of the injuries sustained by the victims has not been disclosed by authorities.
