A St. Louis man appeared in court facing charges for a fatal crash on Interstate 55, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2009 Infiniti attempted to pass a Kia Optima on the right shoulder, striking the pedestrian and another vehicle. The pedestrian, identified as David R. Earl, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Colin P. Tentschert, showed signs of alcohol intoxication and recorded a BAC of .123. St. Louis Man Faces Charges for Fatal DUI Crash on I-55

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening on Interstate 55 in St. Louis County, Missouri, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The driver responsible for the crash appeared in court on Tuesday morning to face charges related to the incident.

Details of the Crash

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report indicated that the collision took place at 8:15 p.m. on I-55, just north of Meramec Bottom Road. A 2009 Infiniti G37x was traveling northbound on the interstate when the driver attempted to pass a 2015 Kia Optima by using the right shoulder. In doing so, the driver struck a pedestrian and a 2005 Hyundai Elantra already on the shoulder before colliding with the Optima.

The pedestrian, identified as David R. Earl from Live Oak, Florida, tragically lost his life in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 44 years of age. The driver of the Kia Optima escaped unharmed.

Driver’s Intoxication

The driver of the Infiniti, Colin P. Tentschert, 22, exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication at the scene of the crash. A breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of .123, well above the legal limit. Tentschert admitted to consuming half a bottle of vodka earlier in the day.

Despite suffering only minor injuries in the crash, Tentschert’s 20-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries. Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, according to the highway patrol.

Legal Charges

Following the incident, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Tentschert with one count of DWI – death of another. A judge set his bond at $100,000 as he awaits further legal proceedings.
