Jaipur: A tragic incident unfolded in Kota, Rajasthan, as a 20-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination took his own life in a hostel. The student, identified as Sumit from Rohtak, Haryana, was residing in a hostel in Kota’s Kunhadi Landmark City while attending private coaching classes in preparation for the NEET exam.
Sumit’s family raised concerns when they were unable to reach him, prompting the hostel warden to check on him. Upon discovering Sumit’s lifeless body hanging from a fan in his room, the police were immediately notified. It was revealed that Sumit did not leave a suicide note behind.

Shockingly, there was no anti-hanging device installed in Sumit’s room, despite regulations mandating such safety measures in all PG and hostel accommodations. This oversight highlights the importance of ensuring the well-being and safety of students living away from home.
Sumit’s father, Vijaypal Panchal, recounted his futile attempts to contact his son before alerting the hostel warden. This tragic incident marks the ninth student suicide in Kota this year, shedding light on the immense pressure and mental health challenges faced by students pursuing competitive exams.
