Health Network spokesperson Thomas Lizotte said in an email statement that the network is finalizing the details of an agreement with a daycare operator for the Campbellton area.
“We are very pleased to be able to move forward with a partner whose philosophy of early childhood education is well aligned with our own,” Lizotte said in the statement.
“This is an important development for our staff who are parents of young children and have been waiting for a solution that will allow them to return to work with peace of mind.”
Mann said he hoped the daycare pilot project would be formally announced at the next Vitalité board meeting, which is scheduled for May 9.
The Restigouche Regional Service Commission has been advocating for a daycare in Campbellton for years to help fill a gap in services across the region. The service commission identified the need in 2019 through consultations with regional employers and stakeholders, Mann said.
“The lack of childcare services is a significant barrier in our region,” Mann said. “It’s a barrier for young families, it’s a barrier for employers.”
