The Tragic Shooting Incident in Buffalo, New York

Two Bangladeshi individuals, Babul Mia from Cumilla and Abu Saleh Md Yousuf from Sylhet, met a tragic end in Buffalo, New York on Saturday. The incident took place at Babul’s residence on Jenner Street, where both men were shot around 12:30pm local time.

Police Response and Investigation

Upon receiving reports of the shooting, local police along with a SWAT team swiftly arrived at the scene. The area was cordoned off for approximately six hours as authorities commenced their investigation into the matter. While the victims were confirmed to be male, their identities were not immediately disclosed, nor was there any information regarding the arrest of a suspect.

Victims’ Background and Family

Abu Saleh Md Yousuf, aged 42, had moved to the US just a year ago with his wife and two young daughters in hopes of a better life. Originally from Tinchoti village in Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila, Yousuf’s family members in Sylhet city are still coming to terms with the shocking news. His father, Nurul Haque, was a respected member of the upazila’s Jhingabari union parishad.

On the other hand, Babul Mia, aged 50, had been living in the US for 31 years after winning the DV lottery. Hailing from Cumilla’s Nangalkot upazila, Babul resided in Buffalo with his wife and seven children, leading a life that was abruptly cut short by the tragic incident.

The Alleged Circumstances

According to reports, Yousuf was shot dead while working on a painting project at Babul Mia’s house on Jenner Street. It is claimed that Babul had encountered trouble with local troublemakers, and when the situation escalated, Yousuf bravely stepped in to protect him, resulting in both men being fatally shot.

Yousuf’s uncle, Badrul Haque, expressed disbelief and shock over the tragic turn of events, emphasizing the impact on Yousuf’s family and loved ones. Similarly, Babul’s nephew, Abdul Mazid, highlighted the long-standing presence of his uncle in the US and the devastating loss experienced by the family.
