A 25-year-old man in Austin, Texas, has been charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon following a road rage incident that escalated into a shooting. Michael Rivera allegedly shot a woman five times after a heated exchange on the road. The victim, driving a black Chevrolet Trax with a friend, was approached by Rivera in a silver sedan. Shocking Road Rage Incident in Austin, Texas

A terrifying road rage incident in Austin, Texas has left the community in shock. A 25-year-old man, Michael Rivera, has been charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon after a confrontation escalated into a shooting.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place on April 24 just after 8 a.m. on Gemmer Street. The victim, driving a black Chevrolet Trax with a friend, was driving slowly in the right lane and on the shoulder due to a problem with the tires. They were approached by a silver sedan, driven by Rivera, who cursed at them as he drove by.

As both vehicles approached the intersection of FM 973 and Burleson Road, the situation took a terrifying turn. The victim noticed the sedan veering into the left lane while attempting to make a left turn. When the victim stopped, he heard gunshots and realized he had been shot in the arm.

The Aftermath

The victim was shot five times: once in the left bicep, twice in the right forearm, twice in the left thigh, and suffered an abrasion wound on the shin below the right knee. The first person to call 911 was a female passenger in the Chevrolet, who witnessed the shooting.

Rivera claimed he shot the victim in self-defense, but authorities found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his vehicle. The victim had a gun in the car as well, but stated he did not hold or display it during the altercation.

Police Investigation

After the incident, an APD detective located Rivera’s gray Cadillac on Gemmer Street and found a loaded handgun in the front seat. The Criminal Investigation Unit (CSU) seized several items from the vehicle, including the weapon and seven spent shell casings.
