The suspect, identified as Dunlap, was caught on video riding a skateboard near the damaged vehicles. A search warrant was issued for his apartment, where police found firearms, a manifesto, and other concerning items. Lawrence Anthony Dunlap, 37, of South Spring Street in Concord, was taken into custody on Friday on 11 felony counts of criminal mischief. The arrest came after an extensive investigation into a series of incidents involving close to a dozen vehicles being vandalized around Concord High School during the New Hampshire GOP convention. The convention took place at the Christa McAuliffe Auditorium and the Main Street corridor, rented by the party for the event. Attendees leaving the convention in the early afternoon were shocked to discover their vehicles had been keyed and damaged, prompting many to call the police.
Investigation and Arrest
According to Detective Sergeant Benjamin Mitchell of the Concord Police Department, detectives were able to obtain video footage of a suspect fitting the description of a white man with a beard and dark hair, seen riding a longboard skateboard near the vandalized vehicles. A Concord Regional Crimeline alert was issued, leading to the identification of the suspect as Dunlap.
Following the identification of the suspect, a search warrant was issued for Dunlap’s residence on South Spring Street. On the morning of Friday, an alert was broadcast to law enforcement agencies around the state, describing Dunlap as having potential mental health issues and stating that a search of his home had revealed firearms, a manifesto, suicide notes, and a bag containing zip ties, masks, and gloves. Police believed all of Dunlap’s vehicles were located at his residence and were in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for felony criminal mischief.
Upon Dunlap’s arrest, he was held on preventative detention. It was revealed that Dunlap had made some political statements on his Facebook page, engaging in conversations with friends about various topics. Some of his posts expressed left-of-center views, including a comparison of the January 6 riot at the Capitol building to domestic terrorism and sharing a graphic about federal benefits received by states based on political affiliation.
