Over the years, there have been several instances of morel hunters in Missouri stumbling upon human remains. In 2023, a mushroom hunter found the remains of a missing woman near St. Louis, while in rural Daviess County, remains were discovered near a farm and later identified as a homicide victim.
Other cases include the discovery of a body in a well in Dallas County, skeletal remains in Ray County, and the remains of a woman in her 60s near Branson. Each of these incidents underscores the unexpected and sometimes macabre nature of morel hunting in Missouri.
