2. Safety concerns rise in White Rock with killer at large

The quiet seaside community of White Rock, B.C., is reeling from a recent spate of violent attacks, leaving residents on edge and authorities scrambling to catch a killer on the loose.

Two separate stabbings occurred on the picturesque beach promenade this week, with one of them proving to be fatal. The incidents have sent shockwaves through the community, prompting fear and concern among locals.

Punam, a relative of Jadinder Singh who survived the first stabbing, expressed her deep unease, saying, “It’s very alarming, it is very scary. I have friends down there who are scared to even go out anymore.” Global News is not identifying her out of safety concerns.

Community in Turmoil

Singh, a newcomer to Canada, was viciously attacked while sitting on the promenade with his wife on Sunday night. The brutal stabbing left him with serious injuries, but he is expected to survive. Just a day later, Kulwinder Sohi was tragically stabbed to death while enjoying the beach view with a friend.

Authorities have increased patrols in the area, and the public safety minister has assured residents that apprehending the perpetrator is a top priority. Despite these efforts, the atmosphere in the neighbourhood remains tense and fearful.

Fear Grips the Neighbourhood

Gus Rachid, owner of Five Kitchen and Oyster Bar, lamented the impact of the attacks on his business, noting a significant drop in customers. “People in general are not coming to the beach, trying to stay away until things are solved…we’ve started to cut some staff hours and shifts,” he said.

Meanwhile, Punam revealed the emotional toll the incidents have taken on Singh and his wife, with thoughts of returning to India now weighing heavily on their minds. She described their trauma, saying, “They are traumatized, both of them. Not doing good at all. The wife had a mental breakdown this morning, she cried and cried, thinking this could have been very well him.”

Community Support

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that Singh’s medical costs will be covered by MSP, easing some financial burden for the family. Additionally, crowdfunding campaigns for both victims have seen an outpouring of support, with donations pouring in to assist with expenses.

Authorities have released a suspect description, describing the individual as a Black male, five-feet-11-inches tall, last seen wearing a hat and a grey hoodie with the hood up. Anyone with information is urged to contact the IHIT infoline.

The community of White Rock remains in a state of unease as the search for the perpetrator continues. With residents on high alert and authorities working tirelessly to solve the case, the hope is that justice will soon be served and peace restored to this tranquil seaside town.
