Grayslake Woman Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Lake County, Indiana

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. – A woman from Grayslake, Indiana, has been taken into custody after leading officers on a high-speed chase with a child in her car. The incident took place just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday in Lake County, Indiana.

The situation unfolded when a Lake County officer, who was driving northbound on I-65 from U.S. 30, had to come to a stop due to a fatal crash that had occurred. Indiana State Police were already at the scene of the crash, located on northbound I-65, just south of Ridge Road. It was at this moment that a white Chevy vehicle sped past the officer on the shoulder.

The Chevy struck a piece of metal, which then hit the officer’s car. In response, the officer activated his emergency lights and pursued the Chevy driver. The vehicle reached speeds exceeding 110 miles per hour before finally coming to a stop south of the fatal crash scene.

Upon approaching the driver, identified as 48-year-old Ana Lidia Perez, the officer noticed a 4-year-old boy in the rear passenger seat. Despite being ordered to exit the vehicle, Perez reportedly refused. The officer had to physically remove her from the car, with assistance from a trooper. The child was then placed in the care of his grandmother, and Child Protective Services were notified.

Subsequent investigation revealed an alcoholic beverage in the car’s cupholder. Following her arrest, Perez was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being released into police custody.
