Woman Allegedly Raped and Forced to Convert to Islam in Belagavi

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the residents of Belagavi, a 28-year-old woman has come forward with allegations of being raped and forced to convert to Islam by a man in front of his wife. The victim revealed that she was threatened with the release of explicit pictures online if she did not comply with the demands of the accused. Additionally, the woman claimed that she was coerced into removing ‘Kumkum’ from her forehead and wearing a burkha.
Following the woman’s complaint, the police have registered a case against seven individuals, including the main accused, Rafik, and his wife. According to the FIR, the couple lured the woman into a relationship and engaged in sexual activities with her. Subsequently, they began blackmailing her with intimate pictures to force her to convert to Islam.
The victim stated that Rafik pressured her to divorce her husband and threatened to expose her pictures online if she refused to convert. She also mentioned that the couple used intimidation tactics, including threats of physical harm, to coerce her into changing her religion.
Rafik and his wife reportedly made the woman move into their home in Belagavi, where she was subjected to further emotional and mental abuse. The victim alleged that she faced derogatory remarks based on her caste and was compelled to convert due to her belonging to a backward community, as per a report by India Today.
The police have taken swift action in the case by filing an FIR under various laws, including the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, relevant sections of the IT law, the SC/ST Act, and the Indian Penal Code. The charges against the accused include rape, kidnapping, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation.
