In September 2022, while Bass was a House representative, her personal residence in Baldwin Vista was burglarized, resulting in the theft of two handguns. Two suspects were apprehended. Though Pelosi was not at home, her husband, Paul Pelosi, faced a violent assault with a hammer by the intruder, David DePape, resulting in a fractured skull.

David DePape was later convicted of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assaulting a family member of a federal official. These incidents highlight the vulnerability of public figures and the importance of security measures in place to protect them.
