A 54-year-old Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer, Major Nsamba Habib Katakabire, was tragically killed in a fatal accident in Mabira along the Kampala-Jinja highway in Buikwe District. The accident occurred when Maj. Nsamba, driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, attempted to overtake several vehicles and collided with a trailer and a Toyota Corona Premio. The trailer driver, Muhammad Kasozi, also died in the crash, while the Toyota Corona driver, PC Isaac Kayondo, survived with injuries. Police attributed the accident to careless overtaking. This incident came just a day after another fatal crash in Mpigi, where three occupants of a Subaru Forester were killed in a collision with a Mitsubishi Fuso.

A 54-year-old Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer, Major Nsamba Habib Katakabire, tragically lost his life in a fatal accident that occurred in Mabira along the Kampala-Jinja highway in Buikwe District. The incident took place at around 1 p.m. on Friday at Sanga-Mabira, near the new picnic site along the busy highway.

### Details of the Accident
Major Nsamba was behind the wheel of a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number UBQ 424N when the accident took place. Reports suggest that he attempted to overtake several vehicles before colliding with a trailer bearing registration number UBP 644S/UBP 770N. The collision also involved a Toyota Corona Premio, adding to the severity of the crash.

### Victims and Survivors
Tragically, Major Nsamba and the driver of the Howo Trailer, identified as Muhammad Kasozi, lost their lives instantly in the accident. On the other hand, the driver of the Toyota Corona Premio, Police Constable Isaac Kayondo from Bweyogerere, survived the crash with injuries. Kayondo was promptly rushed to Kawolo Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

### Police Investigations and Postmortem
Following the accident, the bodies of the deceased were transferred to Kawolo hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations. The wreckages of the vehicles involved were towed to Mabira police station and parked there awaiting inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).

### Police Statement
Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa regional police spokesperson, attributed the cause of the accident to Major Nsamba’s reckless overtaking manoeuvre. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of careless driving on busy highways.

### Previous Incident in Mpigi
Just a day before the fatal accident in Mabira, another tragic incident occurred in Mpigi, claiming the lives of three individuals. The crash took place on Wednesday night at Kasuule Ayanguwa swamp along the Masaka-Kampala highway, involving a Mitsubishi Fuso and a Subaru Forester travelling in opposite directions. The collision resulted in the instant death of three occupants in the Subaru Forester, including the driver, while another occupant sustained critical injuries.
