At least three people, including two children, were killed in separate road accidents in Munshiganj, Chattogram, and Jaipurhat on Saturday. A six-year-old child was killed when an auto-rickshaw overturned at Shimulia crossing in Lauhajang upazila’s Padma Bridge (North) police station. The child, identified as Shanta, was declared dead at Srinagar upazila health complex. In another incident, a 1.5-year-old girl named Taslima Hasan Tayaba was killed in a road crash in Patenga, Chattogram. Additionally, Mahbubur Rahman, 32, lost his life in a road accident in Panchbibi upazila, Jaipurhat. Police investigations are ongoing in all three tragic incidents.

Munshiganj Tragedy

According to reports from our New Age correspondent in Munshiganj, a six-year-old child named Shanta, daughter of Md Shakil from Barishal’s Hijla upazila, was killed in a devastating auto-rickshaw accident at Shimulia crossing of Lauhajang upazila’s Padma Bridge (North) police station on Saturday afternoon.

The heartbreaking incident occurred when the auto-rickshaw, carrying Shanta and her parents, overturned at Shimulia crossing around 1:45pm, resulting in injuries. Despite efforts by locals to rush them to Srinagar upazila health complex, Shanta was declared dead by the on-duty doctor.

Padma Bridge (North) police station inspector (investigation) Joynal Abedin confirmed that the body was handed over to the family for final rites.

Chattogram Accident

In another heart-wrenching incident, a 1.5-year-old child named Taslima Hasan Tayaba, daughter of Hasan from Kazir Goli area of EPZ thana, lost her life in a road crash in Katgar area of Patenga thana in Chattogram. The accident occurred when a lorry collided with the auto-rickshaw carrying Tayaba and her parents around 12:20pm.

Despite immediate medical attention at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, Tayaba succumbed to her injuries. Patenga police station officer-in-charge M Kabirul Islam confirmed the tragic news.

Jaipurhat Incident

Tragedy struck once again in Panchbibi upazila of Jaipurhat, where 32-year-old Mahbubur Rahman, a resident of Joyhar village, lost his life in a fatal road accident. Reports from Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha revealed that Mahbubur was hit by a tractor while riding his motorcycle in front of Panchbibi Degree College at noon.

Police swiftly seized the tractor involved in the accident, and a case was filed to investigate the circumstances leading to Mahbubur’s untimely demise.

These incidents serve as stark reminders of the dangers posed by road accidents and the importance of road safety measures to prevent such tragic loss of lives.
