Three individuals were accused of stealing over £1,400 worth of goods from two Daly City stores, as reported by the Colma Police Department. The incident unfolded when Colma police officers noticed a black Mercedes-Benz driving recklessly near Junipero Serra Boulevard and Serra Center around 6:47 p.m. on April 14. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the Mercedes ran two red lights and came to a stop in the middle of the road. The driver, identified as 64-year-old Mark Piercy from Austin, Texas, claimed the vehicle had run out of gas, while a man and a woman associated with the car were seen walking towards a nearby shopping center. The police uncovered rifle ammunition and clothing with security sensors attached from multiple stores in the vehicle. The two other suspects, 51-year-old Demetria Dyer and 54-year-old Joe Minix from Oakland, were also apprehended. The trio was charged with various offenses including burglary, grand theft, and providing false identities to law enforcement. All suspects were taken into custody and booked at the San Mateo County Jail.

Discovery and Pursuit

Responding swiftly to the call, officers spotted a man and a woman walking away from the vehicle towards a nearby shopping centre. The driver of the Mercedes, upon being approached by the officers, claimed the vehicle had run out of gas and the man and woman were on their way to get some fuel. Little did the officers know what they were about to uncover.

Unveiling the Truth

An investigation by the Colma Police Department revealed that the driver was not just any ordinary individual. In fact, he was a wanted fugitive from Texas, on parole and with a history that spoke volumes. A search of the vehicle yielded not just any ordinary items, but rifle ammunition and clothing with security sensors still attached, items that had been stolen from multiple stores.

Arrest and Revelations

The driver, identified as 64-year-old Mark Piercy from Austin, Texas, was promptly arrested by the Colma PD. The man and woman accompanying him were also detained, with both providing false identities to the officers. However, the truth soon came to light.

The woman, whose real name was revealed through police dispatch, was identified as 51-year-old Demetria Dyer from Oakland, with an out-of-county felony warrant for her arrest. The second male suspect, 54-year-old Joe Minix, also from Oakland, had not one, but two out-of-county felony warrants against him.

String of Theft

Police investigations pointed towards Minix and Dyer being the culprits behind the theft from two establishments in the 100 block of Serramonte Boulevard in Daly City, with Piercy playing the role of the getaway driver. The total worth of the stolen merchandise from both stores amounted to $1,454.33, with Minix using wire cutters to remove the security sensors.

Legal Consequences

All three suspects were taken into custody and booked into the San Mateo County Jail. Piercy faced charges of being a felon in possession of ammunition, felony conspiracy to commit a crime, burglary, and grand theft. Dyer was charged with burglary, felony conspiracy to commit a crime, grand theft, providing false information to peace officers, and her felony warrant. Minix faced charges of burglary, felony conspiracy to commit a crime, grand theft, possession of burglary tools, providing false information to peace officers, and his two felony warrants.
