The Unfortunate Incident in Avon Park

On a regular Wednesday afternoon in Avon Park, a Highlands County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a driver in a Kia sedan who was not wearing his seatbelt. What started as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into something much more serious.

Discovery of Illegal Substances

As the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed a baggy containing a “large quantity” of crystal-like substance on the floor of the driver’s side. Suspecting it to be methamphetamine, the deputy conducted a field test which confirmed his suspicions. The substance weighed a total of 10 grams.

Involvement of a Passenger

Upon further inspection, the deputy also found the same substance on the floorboard of the passenger’s side. The passenger was identified as Daryl Matthew Tomblin, a 42-year-old resident of Lake Placid. The substance found on his side also tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed one gram.

Driver’s Admission

During the course of the investigation, the driver confessed that Tomblin had handed him the bag of methamphetamine when they realized they were being pulled over.
