Tevon Antolwon King, 28, pleaded guilty to one count each of second-degree murder and first-degree burglary with a dangerous weapon. A second count of first-degree burglary was dismissed, according to court documents.
Police Response and Standoff
Officers were called to the 1100 block of White Bear Avenue just after midnight on June 7, 2023, following reports of a man who had broken into a home and was holding residents hostage. The SWAT team quickly arrived on the scene, and police utilized a P.A. system to urge residents to evacuate. Fortunately, five people were able to flee the home safely.
King’s mother informed the police that he was experiencing a mental health crisis exacerbated by drug use, shedding light on the tragic situation that unfolded that night.

Later that morning, police responded to another house on the block and discovered a deceased man with a gunshot wound, suspected to be connected to King. The victim was identified as 36-year-old James Harmon of St. Paul.

During questioning, King claimed not to recognize the house he was in that night, recalling waking up on a trampoline and hearing a dog howling. He denied any knowledge of the residence where Harmon was found deceased, providing detailed descriptions of the interior layout despite his alleged lack of familiarity with the property. King asserted he had no connection to Harmon or his roommate.
